Welcome -Karibu
We look forward to welcoming you back—or introducing ourselves to you for the first time.
Life in Nakweni continues with dedication, hard work, hope for the future, and deep care for one another, for family, and for the village they call home. Nakwéni Sisters is a partnership between a group of Maasai women and a friend from the United States, created to bring value, opportunity, and a strong collective voice to this vibrant community of women.
The group is made up of 17 women who create hand-beaded jewelry, baskets, belts, purses, and more. Each piece expresses Maasai culture through thoughtful design while also serving as a pathway toward the goals the women set to improve the lives of their families.
The Nakwéni Sisters gather twice each week to bead together and to share their dreams and plans for the future. In the vast, arid landscape of Nakweni, you’ll see clusters of huts, fences woven from brush, and young Maasai men in red plaid shúkàs herding goats across the land. Yet the true jewels of this place are the women themselves—dressed in vibrant colors, bringing life, beauty, and strength to their surroundings. Their determination and faith radiate throughout the land.
The beaded items created by the Nakwéni Sisters are sold in the United States, as well as in Tanzania for those who have the opportunity to travel and meet the team in person. One hundred percent of the proceeds go directly to the women. These funds support daily needs, seeds for planting crops, solar lights, school fees for children and youth attending secondary school, and special community projects.
More to come on this!
